PHILADELPHIA, Pa .– Michigan State Representative Mari Manoogian will serve as emcee at 15e annual Gala of the Armenian National Committee of America of the Eastern Region (ANCA Eastern Region) on Saturday October 23, 2021 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The gala, which will comply with all COVID-19 safety protocols, will include a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner and rewards program. Tickets can be purchased in line.
State Representative Manoogian will be joined by community leaders and local activists to celebrate the achievements of the Eastern Region in 2021 and honor those who have worked tirelessly to advance the Armenian-American cause. The region will award both the ANCA Eastern Region Freedom Award and the ANCA Eastern Region Vahan Cardashian Award to the deserving recipients. The region is also ready to honor its summer internship participants, as well as its ANCA Leo Sarkisian internship program participants.
“It is truly an honor to have been invited to serve as master of ceremonies at this year’s NAFC Eastern Region Gala,” said Representative Manoogian. “Our community has always worked diligently to advance justice-focused causes, both for ourselves and for others. 2020 and 2021 have been filled with both pain and loss, but also joy and gratitude, and I look forward to having the chance to celebrate and honor those who are making a real difference in our community. State Representative Manoogian, a third generation Armenian-American from Michigan, was elected to serve on the 40e District of the Michigan House of Representatives in 2018, which includes Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and part of West Bloomfield Township. During her second term, she was elected Assistant Deputy Chair of the Democratic Caucus and Vice Chair of Minorities for the House Committee on Energy.
She is not only the youngest woman to sit in the Michigan House of Representatives, but also the first Armenian-American woman to sit. As a state representative, she has continuously championed the causes of Hai Tahd, including the introduction and adoption of a resolution condemning the attack on Artsakh in 2020. Manoogian, a rising star in the political arena, was selected to deliver the opening speech on the second night of the Democratic National Convention in the 2020 elections.
In 2020, the ANCA Eastern Region honored Manoogian for his contributions to the Armenian cause with the first One to Watch Prize for the ANCA Eastern Region.
Manoogian, a great-grandchild of Armenian Genocide survivors, continues to remain active in the Armenian community of Metro Detroit. She attended the Zavarian Armenian Language School of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) in Troy, Michigan for 10 years, participated in the summer conferences of the Armenian Seminary St. Nersess, and was active in the Federation of Armenian Youth (AYF) and the Youth Organization of the Armenian Church of America.
