The Michigan community, Big Rapids, hosts several events for veterans

BIG RAPIDS – Mecosta County is honoring veterans in the community with a series of Veterans Day events, Thursday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 13.

Events range from the Veterans Day Parade to a hockey game, culminating in the Veterans Day Concert at FSU.

Here is a list of events:

FSU Veterans Day Breakfast: 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at David L. Eisler Ballroom 202 at Ferris State University, 805 Campus Drive, Big Rapids.

Veterans Day SOS Breakfast: 9-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at AMVETS Post 1941, 320 S. 4th Ave., Big Rapids.

Tribute to Veterans Day: 10-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at Crossroads Charter Academy, 215 N. State St., Big Rapids. Join us in honoring our band and choir on Veterans Day in the elementary school auditorium.

Introducing Honor Quilts: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at Pocket Park in downtown Big Rapids.

Big Rapids Veterans Day Parade: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, downtown Big Rapids. Gathering after the parade at the Big Rapids AMVETS Post 1941, 320 S 4th Ave., Big Rapids.

Gerald Pitts American Post #473/Female Auxiliary Veterans Day Dinner and Auction: 6:30 p.m. Friday, November 11 at Fork Township Hall, 3265 20 Mile Road, Barryton.

Chili Cook Off: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Three Girls Bakery, 106 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapids. The event is free; donations benefit the local Soldiers and Sailors Relief Fund for our veterans. There will also be craft and vendor stalls inside the bakery with items for purchase.

14th Annual Tribute to Veterans: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Mecosta County Genealogical Society, 424 N. Fourth Ave., Big Rapids. Area veterans will have a unique display of military items, albums, medals and photos available to the public. Bring in military artefacts from the ancestors to display. Walk-ins are welcome.

FSU Veterans Day Hockey Game: 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12 at Ferris State Ice Arena, 210 Sports Drive, Big Rapids. Tickets: $9/veterans, $16/public.

Veterans Day Concert: 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday, November 13 at Ferris State University, Williams Auditorium, 901 S. State St., Big Rapids.
