The Michigan State Senator’s speech evokes President Reagan.

The Symphony Society of San Antonio should be disbanded for the good of the city, music lovers and symphony musicians. She has shown incompetence, insensitivity, elitism and pettiness (with the dismissal of Sebastian Lang-Lessing.) The Symphony Society adds no value to our community.

A new entity whose first job would be to study the strategy of the great first-class orchestras that survive and thrive would take its place. We have a good start with first class musicians.

The United States is a republic

The United States is a constitutional and federal republic, not a democracy. The founders were concerned with mob rule, so they created a representative republic rather than a direct democracy. Representatives are elected; the rules established in our Constitution must be followed; and federal powers are limited. As Benjamin Franklin would have said, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention created a republic.

The Pledge of Allegiance begins with “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic which it represents.” The accusation by one group that another group is destroying democracy is incorrect. Our country faces many problems. The fact that we live in a republic and not a democracy should be clear to everyone.

Exact about what’s wrong

I found Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow’s speech defending herself against baseless claims by a fellow state senator to be one of the most impassioned and compelling speeches since that of former President Ronald Reagan. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! speech. She explained what is wrong with today’s political environment after five years of former President Donald Trump. Name calling, culture wars, fake news.

I have enough. She also spoke rationally and passionately about what I want from the government. And the truth will set you free.
